Throwback Thursday.. Remember gaining weight doesn’t happen overnight….and nether does loosing it and becoming healthy! I remember just turning 18 and not knowing what I was missing out on in life. I continued to tell myself that I didn’t look like I weighed 300lbs.. But clearly I did. I remember having migraines..severe depression, suicidal thoughts and I used to self harm. My eating habits were horrible, but at the time I didn’t know any better.. That’s the only life I knew, my parents both ate(still do eat) shitty and i didn’t know there was a better life out there.
After my freshman year in college, I knew I had to change.. That summer, I slowly started researchers things and making slow changes. First I drank more water and ate more vegetables, I added some light cardio as well. When I stared noticing changes I added a few more things in! It was a long journey..and I even had some slip ups along the way! (Which is completely normal, everyone has these) but I am proud of my journey.. Proud of everything I have overcome in life. Yes my body isn’t where I want it to be.. But look at how far I’ve come.. There’s a 4-5 year difference between these photos. It’s a lifestyle change.. The before photo was taken a while ago, I was eating a diet that included meat and dairy products. The during photo was taken this morning after five weeks on a vegan “diet” and three weeks of going to the gym 5 times a week. I have lost a total of 4.3 kilograms within the last five weeks and still have about 13.2 to go. 

My issue is that I can’t see much of a difference between the before photo and now. Other people say they have noticed a change, but when I look at myself I see what I have always seen. I guess I am my biggest critic.

Holy smokes! I was feeling a bit unmotivated today kept pushing back my workout because I was lazy I imagine due to my lack of motivation yesterday but I compared these photos. The first photos on the left were from the very beginning of my journey I never imagined I would be where I was today. The ones on the right were from today where I was beating myself up for being off track until this week. There’s no time to look back I’ve come so far it’s time to get this run and leg workout like no other. I promise from this point on to not let anything run the finishing of my journey.

Officially out of the 180s! Weighed in at 179.6 so it’s hella close but still! I’m worried I’m going to hit a plateau with my workouts, so today I increased the incline and intensity by 1 (from level 8 to level 9) and though I only did 35 mins since I woke up late, I felt amazing afterward!

I know I take so many pictures, but I am a visual learner and I can’t help it! 215 in both before pictures, 180 in both “during” pictures. Face and arm differences are the major ones. Something not entirely visible is my confidence differences. I feel so alive and refreshed and excited about life and music and working out. I don’t dread the gym in the morning because it’s my time to think and improve myself both mentally and physically.

I don’t normally make weight goals, but there are only 6 weeks left in the semester so I think it’s a sign that I should set a goal to lose 6 pounds before summer! I want to be 174 by summer! I can do it, and I’m excited to do it :)

Diet and exercise strategy:

I have been notorious for setting a goal, especially a new years resolution, to lose weight. In high school I weighed 135lbs. However, I was more determined than ever as I am approaching my graduation from graduate school to get back close to where I was in high school.

I lost roughly 23 pounds in 8 weeks. I accomplished this through tracking my macronutrients, adjusting them every week or so based on my new weight. I also lifted weights in a progressive program 4x a week and included 30-40 minutes of cardio 5x a week. Motivation is tough to come by, and sometimes you have to be your own motivation. What helped me the most was taking before and during pictures and comparing them, seeing all the progress I had made. I am so much happier and stronger now!! :)

The picture on the left was exactly a year ago!! And the right was taken 3 days ago :) It’s so crazy to see how far I’ve gone. There are days when I want to give up and just “accept my body for it is” and eat all the food I want to eat, even though I have not yet reached my health goal yet. But now, seeing this comparison motivates me even more!! To get up every morning to work out, to have healthier options for meals, and to be healthier!! I have a lot more to go, but I know that if I’m having a bad day, I can look at this photo to motivate me to keep going on my journey :)

It’s crazy how before, I look at others’ before & after pictures for motivation. But now, I can look at MYSELF for motivation :’))

My health journey started late January. I ran up some stairs and was out of breath for a minute. I was embarrassed because that’s not how I used to be. I decided to change that. I went to the doctor and asked what was the first step. She said I was obese but healthy (no diabetes, blood pressure, ect…). Then I joined a gym that I fell in love with, and hired the most amazing trainer (with a similar background). And I love everything that I’m becoming! I’m still a work in progress!

I’m down a shirt and pant size, almost down a shoe size, my back is hurting less, I’m able to do more with my kids, my acid reflux and snoring are getting better, and I’m having migraines less often, all due to eating better and being more active. Sometimes I get frustrated that the scale seems stuck but then I come across clothes that fit better (or are now too big) and remind myself how much better I’m feeling.
