During the 22 years of my morbid obesity (highest documented weight being 357lbs) I remember having the frequent thought of “I wish I could lose weight. I wish I could be healthy. I would be satisfied to just weigh 300lbs. It’ll never happen. I can’t do it.”
Now, days like today- I step on the scale and see that I am at the same spot I’ve been at for over a year: bouncing between 220-225lbs. I feel frustrated and annoyed that my body won’t just get to the point of where I want it to be. I think “Why can’t I just get over this hurdle? What’s wrong with me? I would be satisfied with just 200lbs.” Wait….I stop….I breathe….I reflect. Not too long ago, I was at this same point. Only difference is that I was about 140lbs heavier. What’s wrong with me, I ask? NOTHING. That’s what. We live in a day and age where women (and men too) are so critical about their bodies and appearances. Living in ways that reflect that the scale is ruling our lives. Well, I refuse to be dictated by a scale. I refuse to be unsatisfied with my progress because of a numerical definition of my body mass. No. Not today. Regardless of where you stand on that scale today, you are worth much more than that number. The scale doesn’t measure your strength, confidence, personality, humor, wit, intelligence, beauty, or anything else at that matter. You define you. Do most of us want to lose weight and be heathy? Of course! But we can do that while loving ourselves and appreciating our bodies every step of the way. This goes both ways- there are a lot of people in the world who want/need to gain weight due to illness/eating disorder/ whatever it may be. My advise to anyone wanting to lose or gain: LOVE YOURSELF. Give yourself some grace. You’re doing the best you can. Keep going forward. Be gentle with your heart and your mind. Mental wellness is just as (if not more) important than physical wellness. You’ve got this. #confidence #motivation #selflove #transformationtuesday #weightloss #weightgain #weightlossjourney #fitness #cardio #healthyliving #healthy #bebold #loveyourbody #mentalhealth #mentalwellness #wellness #wellbeing #ww #weightwatchers #grace #patience #love
