I’ve always struggled with my weight and lost about 30 kilos in 2010 through unhealthy means. After gaining it back plus a little more (as it wasn’t sustainable to live the way I was), what started my weight loss journey again was breaking my ankle in 2014. Since then, I’ve lost weight gradually over time and have continued over these two years.
The most important thing I’ve learnt is moderation. I know, you hear it everywhere but it’s honestly the best way to keep yourself motivated and is the most realistic way to enjoy your life while continuing to lose weight. In terms of exercise, I’ve just made sure to walk places I otherwise would’ve driven, taking extra opportunities to be active as my ankle is still fairly weak and cannot handle runs. I’ve learnt to love myself a lot more doing this gradually and while I’m by no means at my ideal ‘after’, I’m happy to enjoy the journey now.
